About usdriving.net

usdriving.net is a free, independent study site for the US driving theory test — the written permit or knowledge test — with practice tests, cheat sheets, and FAQs for all 50 states and Washington, D.C., each checked against that state's official driver handbook.

What "driving theory test" means here

Outside the US, the written exam you pass before learning to drive is usually called a theory test. In the US it goes by other names — the permit test, the knowledge test, or the DMV written test — and each state runs its own version, with its own question count, passing score, and rules. usdriving.net covers that written exam for every state and Washington, D.C.

Who runs the site

usdriving.net is run by Nick Fu, who leads the usdriving.net editorial team. The team researches each state's rules from its own official driver handbook, writes the practice questions, cheat sheets, FAQs, and guides, and re-checks them against the official source. Pages carry the byline "Nick Fu and the usdriving.net editorial team" along with the date they were last verified.

History

usdriving.net has been online since 2011. In 2026 it was rebuilt from the ground up: rather than one shared question bank with a state's name swapped in, every state and Washington, D.C. now has its own researched question bank, cheat sheet, FAQ, handbook guide, and state-specific guides.
