Minimum car insurance in South Carolina

South Carolina requires 25/50/25 minimum liability coverage -- $25,000 bodily injury per person, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 property damage -- plus matching uninsured-motorist coverage. You'll need proof of coverage to register a vehicle, and again if you're ever stopped or in a crash — carrying only the state minimum is legal, but it may not cover the full cost of a serious accident you cause.

Renewing your license

Do you need a REAL ID?

Since May 7, 2025, the TSA has required a REAL ID-compliant license or ID — marked with a star in the upper right corner — or a valid passport to fly domestically or enter certain federal buildings.
