How many questions are on the Texas permit test?

The standard Class C knowledge exam has 30 questions, and you need 70% correct to pass.

What score do I need to pass?

How much does it cost?

$16 for a minor's learner license with driver education ($15 + $1 admin fee). An adult's original Class C license is $32 plus the $1 fee, valid 8 years.

What documents do I need to bring?

Proof of identity, a VOE (Verification of Enrollment) form if under 18, evidence of financial responsibility (insurance), and proof of driver education if under 25.

What happens if I don't pass?

Your application is held for 90 days. After 90 days, or after 3 failed exams — whichever comes first — you'll need to reapply and pay the fee again.

Can I take the test online instead of in person?

No — Texas requires the application and knowledge exam to be completed in person at a driver license office or authorized testing facility.

What's the minimum age to get a learner license?

15 years old.

How long is my Texas learner license valid?

For applicants under 18, it expires on your 18th birthday — not after a fixed number of months.
